Grab your grandparents
Grab your grandparents! And do it today, not tomorrow. Otherwise, you might miss
the chance and it'll be too late.
We had two sets of grandparents, but those from Germany we called "Oma and Opa."
After some hard years in their small town of Ruppertshofen in southwest Germany,
they managed to get out of Europe before it was too late, and - lucky for us - they
took our mother with them; she was 6 years-old at the time, and remembered nothing.
But like most people who survived and had troublesome memories, they didn't talk
about their experiences very much. When we asked Oma about an old pot that she had,
we heard related stories about cooking in her childhood home. When we asked Opa
why one of his legs was longer than the other, he told us it was from an old motorcycle
accident in his younger days. But they didn't initiate any information. And we didn't
ask a lot, either. To Continue Reading

Unemployed? Know someone who is? Looking for an uplifting experience
before reentering the 9-5 life?
Registration will soon be closing for
Livnot's fall/winter 2009 5-month MASA program
Grants and Scholarships make it possible to participate for the entire 5-month program
for as little as $900!
The Livnot Journey is spectacular hikes, dynamic seminars, inspiring community service
work and living and growing together as a community. The open atmosphere encourages

applied organic agriculture.
For those who are looking for a special Israel experience.

Tzfat campus, as well as daily classes, seminars and workshops, weekly hikes, and
the three-day sea-to-sea hike.)

From Aharon
Dear Friends, Livnot is now entering its 30th year. For me, this is monumental,
in that half of my life I have been serving at the helm of Livnot U'Lehibanot. We
have ridden the waves, the ups and downs, the obstacles and challenges. Each
crisis endured has enabled Livnot to progress to another level.

Birkat HaHama
| |
There are some blessings that Jews recite every morning upon arising. Some
blessings are said every time a Jew eats a certain food, or buys a new item of clothing.
Life-cycle events each have their own blessings, and there are blessings that are
dedicated to Shabbat and holidays. There are even blessings which are said
when one sees a rainbow or lightning, or the monthly blessing on the crest of the
New Moon.
But once every 28 years, Jews gather to recite the Birkat HaHama, the Blessing on
the Sun.

In April 2009, following Pesach, a group of 31 Alexander
Muss High School in Israel students came to Livnot for a community service program.
This is the third year that Muss students have come to volunteer in Tzfat. Each

Community Service at Livnot/Tzfat Campus
Livnot would like to thank the volunteers who have come to
work and partner with Livnot over the past few months. Several groups and
individuals have joined Livnot's community service project in Tzfat. During their
service, the volunteers assisted with public gardening, repairs to schools, assistance
to Old Age facilities, and safety projects for the municipality. Livnot has
worked with over 1500 volunteers to date for over 7500 hours of service. Livnot
and Tzfat's community extends its heartfelt thanks to these volunteers who gave
of themselves so generously during their trip to Israel.

Cindy Feldman z"l
Alisa Feingold
Dear Chevre,
It is with deep sadness that I write to tell you about the death of Cindy Feldman
Garaj, T47 and madricha for 119. During her third trimester of pregnancy,
Cindy was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a form of heart disease
known to cause sudden death. After delivering a healthy baby girl named Ziva, the
beta blockers her doctors prescribed seemed to be working and everything seemed
to be under control. But tragically and unexpectedly, at age 36, Cindy passed away
two weeks later on May 29, 2009. Alisa's loving memory of Cindy
Feldman is here.

Concentrated Effort
| |
Livnot is not merely a program, but is also a special space in the spiritual center
of the Jewish world. Anyone who has not been here during the last 2 years
cannot conceive of the potential of Livnot.
The main center of Livnot sits on the alleyway which is one of the most frequently-visited
tourist thoroughfares in Israel.
