Q: If I apply, am I automatically accepted into the program?

Your online application is the first step in the process, after which you will be contacted by a local Livnot representative for a personal interview. The interview will acquaint you with details of the program, and we expect that the majority of students will qualify. It is also a chance for us to get to know you and make sure the program is suitable for your needs.

Q: When should I buy a plane ticket?

The program is subject to minimum participation. We will confirm the program 45 days before the start date. At that point you should book a flight. Livnot is not financially responsible for flights booked before program is confirmed.

Q: When should I plan to arrive? When should I plan to leave?

The program starts Monday mid-morning. You can arrive to our Jerusalem campus on Sunday (the day before) from 8:30-4pm or on the Monday morning after 7am. Please let us know when you plan to arrive.
Many participants have found it works well to stay a few days (or more) after the program to travel with new friends and see sites we didn’t visit during the program. If you chose to leave Israel on the last day of the program, it’s best to try to arrange a flight after 8pm that evening.

Q: Will someone meet me at the airport? How do I get to the Livnot Campus?

Because participants arrive on different days/times, we do not meet at the airport. It’s easy to get a shared taxi “sherut” from the airport to our Jerusalem Campus for about $15.

Q: Is everyone from North America?

Although the majority are from North America, we often have participants from England, South Africa, Australia, Europe and around the world. After the program, you’ll be given a list of past participants from your home town. So wherever you are from, you’ll have the opportunity to meet many others who are interested in meeting those who have had a similar Israel experience.

Q: What are the accomdations like?

Livnot is not for those looking for a 5 star hotel tour of Israel. Having said that, the campuses are just right for the Livnot experience.

Our Jerusalem campus is a dorm-like facility located near wonderful shops and restaurants. Our Tzfat campus is also on prime property. We are located in the Old City of Tzfat with a breathtaking view. The rooms are modernized, renovated 500-year-old ruins – a very special place.

We hope that you will find the campuses to be a welcoming home away from home in Israel.

Most 30s programs will also spend one night in a guest house in the Dead Sea area, and one night in a guest house in Tel Aviv.

Q: How is the food?

Great! Everyone has a chance to help make breakfast for the group at least once on the program and to help out making salads and serving meals, which is great for really getting to know eachother. Many meals are catered by wonderful local caterers, and a few are out in guest houses or restaurants.

Livnot provides 2-3 meals per day. Livnot makes an effort provide healthy food choices and be sensitive to dietary needs as much as possible.

Q: Is there a lot of free time?

Since the program is only up to 2 weeks long, and there’s so much to do and see, there isn’t a lot of time to spare. But we try to make sure that there is some free time every day. You’ll the opportunity to explore restaurants and shops in most major cities in Israel.

If you are planning to visit family extensively, it’s best to do so before or after the program.

Q: Is Livnot a religious program?

Livnot is not a program for Jewishly observant participants or for those who want to know learn how to become religiously observant. It is a program for Jews who want to understand their Jewish roots and identity better. We don’t teach the “hows” but rather the “whys” of Judaism. The Livnot campuses/meals are kosher, and we observe Shabbat together as a group on campus.
