Repairing Run-Down Homes for Needy Families.
Israel's neediest families often live in homes that are cold and damp, unsafe and run down. Working with volunteer crews, Livnot functions as part of the safety net of Israel's social service agencies. Social workers, therapists, municipal and governmental agencies turn to Livnot for help, since they have neither the budget nor the staff needed to undertake home repairs for people.
A safe secure home allows families to rebuild their self esteem and re-enter the work force. Their children benefit even more, as they feel the self confidence needed for becoming productive citizens of the country.
We saw miraculous recoveries, brought about by the residents’ contact with the warm young faces of the volunteers and a restored home. Over 2300 homes have been repaired and repainted. The waiting list for our services is always very long.
During the Intifada, since the year 2000, we extended these services to victims of terror. 130 families who were devastated by terror attacks keep our phone number on hand for any need they have.
Livnot has received wide spread recognition as an "Outstanding Volunteer Organization" in all cities where the Livnot volunteer program operates -- Jerusalem, Tzfat, Chatzor, and Kiryat Shemona.
